How does the process work?
Preserving flowers begins with dehydration. Water and sap are removed from the plant's vascular system so that replacement substances can be introduced. Methods vary: some involve deep-freezing, while others first use a solution that extracts pigments and essential oils. The dehydrated flowers are then treated with a solution of plant-based glycerine, water, special oils, waxes and other substances. Food-industry colourings replace natural pigments, allowing shades from royal blue to several colours within a single petal.
